Durante audiência na CPI da Covid, em Brasília, na terça-feira, o ex-ministro da Saúde, Luiz Henrique Mandetta, foi questionado se o presidente Jair Bolsonaro teria dado alguma orientação para cancelar o Carnaval de 2020. Lembrando que até o período não existia notícia do novo Coronavírus no país. Por cinco vezes o ex-ministro repetiu a palavra “não” e reiterou “nunca”.

“A gente seguia nesse momento as recomendações da OMS, que não pediu para fechar os voos da China, as feiras de negócio continuaram a acontecer, e expressamente ela dizia que não era para fazer restrição de movimentação e não havia nenhum caso registrado dentro do Brasil.(…) O mundo ainda estava andando”, disse Mandetta.

Já durante a fase de perguntas, Mandetta rechaçou declarações do relator de que no início da pandemia o Ministério da Saúde tivesse orientado pacientes a buscar serviços de saúde apenas quando tivessem sintomas severos como falta de ar. “Isso não foi verdade. Estávamos no mês de fevereiro, janeiro. Não havia um caso registrado no país. As pessoas estavam com sensação de insegurança, pânico, porque viam o que estava acontecendo na China, Itália com lockdown. As pessoas procuravam hospitais para fazer testes e 99,999% eram de outros casos e 0,0001% era de vírus”, disse.

Aos senadores, o ex-ministro da Saúde considerou que até abril de 2020 – à época que respondia pela pasta – as políticas de isolamento social eram “adequadas” para aquele momento da pandemia. “Adequado por causa do índice de transmissão do vírus. O vírus era muito competente. Nós estamos com um sistema que não tinha naquele momento condição de responder”, justificou.
